J.D. Vance’s Son Baptized on Easter Sunday – Guest Commentary

When someone receives salvation or gets baptized, everyone in Heaven rejoices. What joy is experienced when the person who receives this new life is a child entering the Kingdom of God.

This Easter, JD Vance, Vice President of the United States, got to experience this joy when his 6-year-old son, Vivek Vance, chose to be baptized in their local Catholic church.

In his recent address at Turning Point USA’s Tour event at the University of Georgia, Vance reflected on this special moment, noting that he can’t imagine not getting to share that moment with his son.

After the loss of Turning Point USA’s founder, Charlie Kirk, through assassination this past year, Vance shared that Kirk’s wife, Erika, is “really sad about the fact that her two little kids may never have memories of their father,” and he will never get to share in the joy of seeing them get saved and baptized.

“One of the things that you think about as a father is I want my kids to remember this moment,” said Vance. As the father of three young children, Vance has had the pleasure of watching his eldest son, Ewan, get baptized, and now his 6-year-old Vivek.

“I want my 6-year-old to remember when I took him to the zoo,” Vance announced, “My 6-year-old son [Vivek] was just baptized on Easter Sunday. … I want him to remember that moment with me.”

While Vance’s wife, Usha, was raised in a Hindu family and aligns with that heritage, the couple agreed to raise their children in the Catholic church, but “let them choose the moment that they want to ultimately become baptized.” Surely, Vance will remember this moment, one of many, with his children, forever.
