Cuban Christian is sentenced for having Bibles in his house and not believing that ‘Fidel Castro is the god of Cuba’
Misael Díaz Paseiro, who is a member of the ‘Civic Resistance Front Orlando Zapata Tamayo’, was arrested last November and charged with ‘pre-criminal social danger’ by the communist government.
Paseiro’s arrest came after state security agents raided his house and confiscated two Bibles, several crucifixes and five rosaries, being beaten and assaulted by police
‘Misael, besides being counter revolutionary, is also a Christian,’ CSW quoted a police officer who told Paseiro. ‘They should look at us, we’re revolutionaries and we don’t believe in their god. Our God is Fidel Castro. ‘
Initially, Paseiro was denied basic prison rights, such as access to a Bible and visits by a priest. The mistreatment of Paseiro led his wife, Ariana López Roque, to a 19-day hunger strike.
In Cuba the name of Fidel Castro was promulgated as a ‘God’, who praised the legacy he left in that country, being president for many years. That is why persecution of Christians has always been a controversial theme.
