Candace Cameron Bure Teams Up with The Salvation Army to Give Christmas Gifts to Millions of Families

Candace Cameron Bure, a popular Hallmark actress who is also well known for her role as D.J. Tanner on Full House, is teaming up with The Salvation Army to deliver gifts to millions of families across the U.S.

“Christmas is my favorite time of year for so many reasons. The biggest reason is that we celebrate Jesus Christ. It can be a hard season for so many people and that’s why the work that I help do with The Salvation Army is so important — because there are so many people in need, especially during the holidays,” Bure stated to The Christian Post.

The move is part of a donation drive to collect funding for The Salvation Army so they can, in turn, give that money to the families in need in the form of food, clothing, and various types of Christmas gifts. “While it’s a time of giving and should be a time of cheer, it can be very, very heartbreaking, especially for people who are struggling. Whether that’s financial, whether it’s just circumstances that they’re in — homelessness, needing food, just needing help and daycare, and now with the pandemic, of course, that need has gone up,” she told the Christian news site.

Due to government lockdowns, The Salvation Army is expecting a 50 percent decrease in donations at their Red Kettles, where a Salvation Army volunteer will often spend hours ringing a bell and accepting donations from passersby in many popular storefronts. Normally, 23 million people are helped by the organization, but this year the organization is expecting to help 155 percent more people. Without the regular donations from Christmastime, this will prove to be more difficult.

To combat this, The Salvation Army is accepting online donations. “A lot of retail stores aren’t open and there are safety protocols to go through, so they are expecting a decrease in the amount (sic) of donations but we’re so hoping that doesn’t happen,” Bure told The Christian Post. “So if you know that you would go by the grocery store and drop a couple [of] dollars in the bucket, we’re asking, please still do that, or please go to rescuechristmas.org and that goes directly to the red kettle campaign.”
