Graham: Removal of Gendered Language ‘Shakes Fist’ at God
Recently the U.S. House of Representatives voted to remove gendered language from being used in Congress. Though Democrats have been trying to pass this bill for years, this is one of the few times it has actually been passed in the House. Now it will go to the Senate for a vote.
As Christian Headlines previously reported, “In one specific instance, the new rules delete ‘himself or herself’ in place of ‘themself.’ They remove phrases such as ‘he or she’ in place of phrases like ‘Member’ and ‘Delegate.’ They also redefine the meaning of ‘relative’ and ‘family member.'”
Franklin Graham responded to the rules, stating they shake their fist at God and try to deny His authority. In a Facebook post, he stated “God ‘created them male and female’ (Genesis 1:27). This is shaking a fist in the Creator’s face, trying to deny His authority.”
He also stated, “Let your Representative in Congress know that you want them to vote no to this ridiculousness.”
Additionally, Graham noted a response by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who wrote on Twitter, “This is stupid. Signed, – A father, son, and brother.”
This vote follows a video that went viral of a House Democrat Representative who ended his prayer with “amen and awomen” after claiming Allah and God are the same in addition to including other gods for comparison. After praying the Numbers 6 blessing (Numbers 6:24-26) he then ended the prayer by stating “we ask it in the name of the monotheistic god, brahma, and the God known by many names and by many different faiths. Amen. Awomen.”
Franklin Graham, however, believes differently, stating in the Facebook post, “If those claiming the name progressive are allowed to have their way, we won’t even recognize this nation in a very short time.”
It is assumed the Republicans in the Senate will vote the measure down, but Mitch McConnell, the Senate Majority Leader, has yet to express anything about the bill or how the Senate will vote on it.
